The comic prompted an infringement lawsuit from the Walt Disney Company that was not resolved until a federal appeals court decision in 1978. The court found against the cartoonists, and established clearly defined limits on the extent of individual commercial parodies of material protected by copyright and/or trademark. In response to Dan O’Neill’s ongoing antics regarding the suit, Disney agreed not to enforce the monetary aspects of the judgment provided O’Neill and the others quit engaging in perceived infringement of their intellectual property.

  1. So, let me get this straight. Vinnie Colletta inked 178 pages in the span of one month? That's about 7 pages a day, 7 days a week. Now I'm wondering if this may have even been a slow week by Colletta standards? Amazing. Keeping up with Kirby's output ain't easy. Kudos to both men. They don't make them like that any more.
