This is the final issue of the series. In a footer caption on the last story page, editor/co-scripter Steve Gerber announced that he, co-scripter Mary Skrenes, and artist Jim Mooney would conclude the feature in an upcoming issue of The Defenders. However, Skrenes had already left the comics business, and had no intention of working on the story. Gerber never worked on it, either. In May 1978, Marvel publisher Stan Lee terminated Gerber's employment contract with the company. The reason was his failure to meet his work quota, along with other unspecified contract violations. (Gerber had threatened to sue Marvel over ownership of the Howard the Duck character.) In 1979, The Defenders title ran a two-issue resolution to the Omega feature. It was scripted by Steven Grant. According to Grant, the story was commissioned solely to end reader inquiries about it. Gerber and Skrenes had no input. Gerber disavowed the story, claiming it was not in accord with his and Skrenes' plans for the feature.
