Note

This is the premiere issue of what was the first author-owned dedicated-feature comic-book series published by any of the legacy newsstand comic-book publishers, although its distribution was limited to the comics-store market. The issue was also the launch of Marvel's Epic imprint, which in addition to allowing author ownership of original properties, featured higher production values than Marvel's newsprint comics line. The Epic Comics name and logo come from Marvel's Epic Illustrated magazine, but the magazine was not launched with creating a new imprint in mind.
